American Victorian Renaissance Revival 3 Hinge Extra Grade Wooton Patent Secretary Desk by William S. Wooton executed in walnut and burl, ebonized and gilded incised carving. This magnificent desk with its gold hand tooled leather writing board has solid bronze hardware including a patent plate and letter slot. It features bird's eye maple interior, burgandy tooled leather and a highly carved gallery with burled panels, ebonized trim and incising. The cylinder shaped banks have inset burled panels and open on 3 ornate support hinges, The left bank with a mail slot. The banks contain numerous slots and cubbies. A drop down writing surface with birds-eye maple and ebony incising.
Wooton was asked by John D. Rockefeller to make a special style for him. Much corrospondence ensued and Wooton acquiesced to Rockefellers request and made him this very rare desk. It seldom appears and in the 33 years we have been selling these desks this is only the 2nd very large walnut desk to appear. It's monumental in size.
